An initial, a name or a symbol: how to choose

Personal jewellery says something small and specific. Before thinking about metal or size, it helps to decide what you want a piece to say, and how openly.
An initial is quiet
A single letter is discreet and easy to wear every day. It can stand for you or for someone close to you, and only you need to know which.
A name is direct
A full name reads clearly and feels like a dedication. Shorter names tend to sit more neatly on a small piece, so check the character limit shown on the design.
A symbol leaves room
A heart, an olive branch or a medallion can hold a meaning without spelling it out. Symbols also suit gifts, when a story belongs to two people.
Questions worth asking
- Will this still feel right in ten years?
- Is it for every day, or for occasions?
- Should the meaning be visible to others, or stay private?
